I have a U-boat Flightdeck watch that is in great condition. Looking to sell. I do not have the case that came with the watch nor the model number. Here are details:
MOVEMENT:
automatic mechanical chronograph personalized to U-Boat specifications for date display and stem to be positioned at 9 o'clock. Frequency: 28.800 vibrations per hour, 4 Hz. Power reserve: 44 hours. Height: 7 mm.
FUNCTIONS:
hours, minutes, chronograph, counter small seconds at 3, counter 12 at 12, counter 30 minutes at 6. Date window at 9 o'clock.
CASE:
steel 316L AISI, sand blast with subsequent treatment of IP Black coating, vacuum application. Special device protecting the crown, bezel and push button in steel, satin finish. Serial numbering between the case horns.
50 mm and 45 mm diameter. Thickness for 50 mm diameter: 17 mm; for 45 mm diameter: 16,90 mm. Weight for 50 mm diameter: 159 gr; for 45 mm diameter: 125 gr.
DIAL:
black in carbon fibre with hands and markers in relief, silver colour.
Arabic numerals.
CRYSTAL:
sapphire, highly resistant, 2 mm thick.
WATER RESISTANCE:
100 mt, 10 ATM.
STRAP:
black, calf leather, exclusive aero design. Hand made and hand finished, tongue buckle with U-Boat personalization. Width for 50 mm diameter: 23/22 mm. Width for 45 mm diameter: 20/20 mm. Fastened to the case with screws, hypoallergenic and colour retain treatment.
This watch is in fact a grandfather clock watch, which is immensely high-powered for a captain of a ship to have as a means to ensure that he is steering in the correct direction and maneuvering correctly and accurately. In the early 30's and even the 40's, a German commerce by the name of Hanhart created the very first chronograph watches and these watches were used within the commands of large fleets of war ships within the Kriegsmarine, and the UBoats in particular - which is apparently where the UBoat watch gets its name.
